Sport & Recreation
Being a tropical island, the sports and recreation opportunities are endless. Cycling – both on-road and off-road – is an avid pastime, with various events and competitions held throughout the year. Running and hiking are also popular with many expats and locals alike, and there are numerous trail runs, marathons and triathlons on the yearly calendar.
Being a warm climate year-round, water-based sports are extremely popular – surfing, kayaking, sailing, kite surfing, scuba diving and stand-up paddling are all practised daily. The west coast boasts some of the best surfing spots on the island, and large secluded bay of Grande Baie is ideal for kayaking and sailing.
Mauritius also hosts a variety of sports and recreation clubs and extra-mural activities. Both the north and west coast boast numerous sports clubs and gyms, allowing for a large number of both indoor and outdoor activities, such as soccer, tennis, gymnastics, martial arts and dancing. There are also large equestrian centres in both the north and the west, for those who are interested in riding.

Try out a new water sport with a professional before purchasing equipment you may never use.
